LegalPrivacy policy
This site has no accounts, no advertising, no analytics and no newsletter. There is very little to say about the data it collects, and this page says all of it.
Who controls your data
The controller for personal data processed through this website is Reel Outlook, the publisher of reeloutlookuk.com. Data protection enquiries should be sent to editor@reeloutlookuk.com and are handled by the editorial desk.
This policy covers reeloutlookuk.com only. It does not cover the gambling operators we link to. Once you follow an outbound link you are on a separate company's website, governed by that company's privacy notice, and we have no visibility of what happens there.
What we collect
When you simply read the site
Nothing that identifies you is collected by us. There is no analytics service, no advertising technology, no tracking pixels, no social media embeds and no reader accounts. Pages are plain files served to your browser.
As with any website, the infrastructure that delivers these pages produces standard technical logs, which typically include the internet address your request came from, the time of the request, the page requested and your browser's user agent string. These logs exist for security and to keep the site running, are produced by our hosting provider acting on our behalf, and are not used to build any profile of you or combined with other information about you.
When you email us
If you write to the address above we necessarily hold your message, your email address and anything you choose to include. We use it to answer you, and where a message reports a factual error we may keep a note of the correction so that the change to the site can be explained. Correspondence is kept no longer than is useful for that purpose and is not used for marketing.
Browser storage
When you respond to the cookie notice, your choice is saved in your own browser's local storage under a single named entry. It stays on your device, it is not transmitted to us, and it contains nothing except the fact that you have made a choice. Clearing your browser data removes it and the notice reappears. Our cookie policy explains this in more detail.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or rent personal data, and we never will.
- We do not run advertising networks or retargeting on this site.
- We do not build reader profiles, audiences or segments.
- We do not send marketing email, because we have no mailing list.
- We do not receive personal data back from the operators we link to. Where we are paid a commission, we are told that a referral converted; we are not told who you are.
Outbound links and referral parameters
Links to gambling operators carry a small number of parameters in the address which identify Reel Outlook as the source of the visit. They describe this website, not you. We add no identifier of our own and set no cookie before you click. What an operator records once you arrive on its site is set out in that operator's own privacy notice, which is worth reading before you register.
Lawful basis
Where we process personal data, we rely on our legitimate interests in operating a secure website and in replying to correspondence addressed to us, under the UK General Data Protection Regulation. Where a choice is stored in your browser, that is done on the basis of your own action in responding to the notice. We do not process special category data and we do not carry out automated decision-making or profiling.
Sharing
We share personal data with nobody for commercial purposes. The only third parties involved are the service providers that host this website and carry our email, acting on our instructions and only to the extent needed to provide those services. We would disclose information if legally required to do so, and not otherwise.
Retention
Technical server logs are retained for a short period by our hosting provider for security and diagnostic purposes and are then discarded. Email correspondence is kept while it remains relevant and is then deleted. We hold no long-term database of readers because there is nothing in it to hold.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you may ask us for a copy of any personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, ask us to restrict or object to our processing, and ask for it in a portable form where that applies. Write to editor@reeloutlookuk.com; we will respond within the statutory period and we do not charge for this.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled a request, you may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We would prefer the chance to put it right first.
Children
This website is intended for adults aged 18 and over and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, tell us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If the way this site works changes — for example if we ever introduce a measurement tool — this page will be updated before that happens, and the date at the top will change. We will not quietly start collecting something this policy says we do not.
